After 18 days of continuous warfare King Leopold III Léopold Philippe Charles Albert Meinrad Hubertus Marie Miguel sought an armistice with the German Army, thus ending a conflict which it is estimated claimed the lives of over 150,000 soldiers and an unknown number of civilians. Through a series of bitter battles the Germans were able to reduce the Allied army size within the pocket and force them back to the sea.
